Fully serviced, this stunning 1978 JDM Seiko Acier is a high-end quartz timepiece in near-mint condition.
Acier was a short-lived luxury sub-brand of Seiko in the 1970s, positioned as a sibling to CRÊT D'OR. While CRÊT D'OR—later renamed Credor in the late '70s—featured watches crafted from precious metals, Acier focused on premium stainless steel. Despite the material difference, both brands were similarly priced.
In 1979, CRÊT D'OR and Acier merged under the Credor name. This particular model carried a hefty price tag of 120,000 yen, exceeding the cost of most Grand Quartz models of its time.
The watch remains in exceptional, like-new condition inside and out. From the moment you hold it, the craftsmanship is undeniable. The high-grade stainless steel case is beautifully finished and seamlessly integrates with its superb bracelet, featuring screw-connected links for added durability.
The relatively large crown, adorned with an onyx stone, feels fantastic to the touch. Its blue dial, with a subtle sunburst effect, is absolutely mesmerizing, complemented by expertly finished indexes and hands.
Topping it off is a sapphire crystal, ensuring lasting clarity and protection.
At its heart beats the Caliber 5855, a high-precision and sophisticated quartz movement. It has been fully disassembled, cleaned, and lubricated, with a new battery and fresh rubber gaskets installed.
