1963 Seikomatic SilverWave J12082

 Serviced, 1963 Seikomatic SilverWave J12082 in great condition. This watch holds a distinguished place in Seiko's history as the brand's first dive-intended watch, marking a significant step toward the development of professional dive watches like the renowned 62MAS. 

Introduced in 1961 and produced until 1964, the J12082 was Seiko’s inaugural venture into dive watches. It featured a 50-meter water resistance rating and was the first Seiko model to showcase the now-iconic "Tsunami" logo on its case back. This model also debuted Seiko’s two-piece screw-down case back design, enhancing water resistance and durability .

The design is both functional and elegant. Its internal rotating bezel, controlled by the crown, was innovative for its time. The watch features luminous dauphine hands and markers, enhancing readability in low-light conditions. The case design includes sharp bevels and drilled lugs, facilitating easy strap changes.

Seikosha Caliber 603 (later known as 6201), 20 jewels, 18,000 bph, automatic (non-hand-winding) . The same base caliber used in 62GS. The first automatic Grand Seiko. Serviced and running strong with good accuracy. 

Stainless steel case is in very good condition, not polished, with well difined edges. 

NOS Genuine Seiko acrylic crystal. 

Dial is clean and in beautiful condition, with few small blemishes associated with age. 

Due to its limited production run and historical importance, the J12082 is highly sought after by collectors. Well-preserved examples are rare, as many have suffered from moisture ingress over the years, leading to dial and lume degradation.
